The first Month of 2010 was just a bit chilly to say the least; it’s been about 15 years since we had below freezing temperatures for almost a full week. Thank the Lord we didn’t have any major fish kills. I did a little fishing before the freeze and I was catching a few trout and Reds over shell in about 4 to 7 feet of water. The Trout I was catching were in the 2 to 3 lb range and the reds were around 21 to 25 inches long. I was mainly throwing 4” sea shad made by Bassassins in roach and lime truce colors with a 1/8oz Jig head, these baits have plenty of action. I haven’t fished much since the freeze as that is generally the time of year I pull my boat out of the water and take it in for annual preventative maintenance. Just got my Boat back and now I’m gearing up for some hot springtime action, this time of year is when I’ve caught some of my biggest trout! Last year from about the second week of March till the end of April my customers caught several trophy sized trout. They caught 4, 8lb trout and several 5 to 7 pounders. The biggest trout on my boat last year was caught by Kim Hanson and weighted 9 ½ lbs, was 29 ½ “long and had a girth of around 17” Kim had the monster trout mounted. “It’s a Beautiful Thing” Congratulations Kim!!! These Springtime Trout Trips are usually accompanied by hard South Winds, last year the winds started in March and blew almost every day all the way through the month of May. As long as the winds are out of the South, Southeast direction I can usually put my customers on a good sized trout. So don’t wait too long to book one of these Springtime trophy trout trips anglers, it’s looking like its going to be a good spring, and you don’t want to miss out. Be safe and I’ll see you on the water. Captain Bob “Mangus” Drisgill
